DENVER (AP) - Prosecutors will not file charges against a homeowner who shot a prowler to death inside a home in southwest Denver.

The Denver District Attorney’s Office decided Monday that the homeowner was justified when he shot 32-year-old Christopher Nelson multiple times early Friday morning. Colorado’s “make my day” law allows homeowners to use lethal force when confronted by an intruder.

The Denver Post reports (https://goo.gl/lG56hY ) Nelson’s criminal history in Colorado includes misdemeanor arrests for carrying a concealed weapon in 2008 and simple assault in 2014.

The homeowner was once a police officer in Fresno, California.
