ERIE, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say two people were found dead following a head-on crash in northwestern Pennsylvania.

State police in Erie County said an eastbound sport utility vehicle trying to pass another vehicle collided with a westbound car at about 8 a.m. Monday in Summit Township. The Erie Times-News (https://bit.ly/1MSbmBh ) reports that the car driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said witnesses reported seeing a woman leave the other car and head on foot toward a nearby trailer park and pond. Sgt. Mark Zaleski of the state police said troopers searching the area later found her body in the pond.

Police said they aren’t sure why the woman, who was from New York, left the scene and went to the pond. Names of the victims weren’t immediately released.
