AUBURN, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a central New York man is facing charges after he punched a police officer in the face.

The Citizen of Auburn reports (https://bit.ly/1QdiQiM ) the incident happened around 1:30 a.m. Saturday when police were called to the Cayuga Community College nature trail to check the welfare of 26-year-old Christopher Ackerley.

Police say the Auburn man walked up to police on the trail and punched an officer in the face. He’s charged with assault, resisting arrest and obstruction.

Police say the injured officer was treated and released from Auburn Community Hospital, but is out of work for the time being.

It’s unclear if Ackerley has an attorney who could comment on the charges.
