CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - An Army National Guard member is recovering days after trading gunfire with someone who kicked in the door of her home while she was feeding her baby.

The Charlotte Observer reports (https://bit.ly/1kDUvW1 ) 21-year-old Semantha Bunce is improving at Carolinas Medical Center days after being shot by an intruder in her northeast Charlotte home.

Her father-in-law says Bunce was feeding the couple’s baby Tuesday morning when someone rang the doorbell, knocked on the front door, then kicked it in.

Paul Bunce III says his wife and the intruder fired at each other outside her bedroom door. The 4-month-old child wasn’t hurt.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police on Sunday charged 23-year-old Reco Dawkins Jr. with attempted murder, breaking and entering and conspiracy after he turned himself in.
