AVONDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Bond has been set at $500,000 for a Tolleson man suspected of driving impaired and causing a crash that killed two people in Avondale.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s officials say 23-year-old Cesar Aguilar Villanueva was booked Sunday on suspicion of two counts each of manslaughter and endangerment.

He didn’t have an attorney at his initial court appearance Monday.

Investigators say Villanueva was driving at an excessive speed around 5 a.m. Sunday near Avondale Boulevard when his car allegedly rear-ended another vehicle which then collided with a truck.

Enriquez says 21-year-old Jesus Torrez and 19-year-old Guadalupe Gastelum-Suarez were in the vehicle that was hit from behind and both died at the scene. The driver of the truck escaped injury.

Villanueva reportedly told investigators he drank up to seven beers before the crash.
