VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - A federal grant has been awarded to Virginia Beach’s Marine Patrol Unit to update and repair equipment.

The Virginian-Pilot (https://bit.ly/1Pj2BAv ) reports that the $107,350 grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will be used to replace engines on two vessels and to replace electronic components on one vessel. The Marine Patrol Unit also plans to buy nine tactical dry suits to protect officers from hypothermia and pollutants.

The City Council approved the grant last week, along with $35,750 in city funding for the Marine Patrol Unit.
