BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Authorities have arrested a Birmingham woman who they say stole $60,000 worth of cash and property from an elderly woman she worked for.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday that deputies arrested 70-year-old Opal Elaine Tillman on Thursday, charging her with financial exploitation of the elderly.

Tillman began working for the 87-year-old victim in 2011. Family members told investigators that Tillman began to isolate the victim and her husband from them. The family began looking into the victim’s financial accounts and noticed several suspicious transactions.

Tillman also sold several items belonging to the victims, saying she would put the proceeds into their accounts. Investigators say there is no proof she deposited the proceeds as she said she would.

Authorities believe Tillman may have committed similar crimes in Jefferson County.
