HIGHFILL, Ark. (AP) - Officials at Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport aim to open a long-awaited access road by the first half of 2019.

The Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (https://bit.ly/1VqCzis ) reports that the access road is expected to serve as a 4-mile long restricted highway connecting where the U.S. 412 Northern Bypass intersects with Arkansas 112. Consultants working on the $30 million project told board members Wednesday that they have identified two potential routes.

Design and land acquisition will take place after the project receives final environmental approval. Those two processes could be complete by May 2017.

Depending on funding, bidding and construction could begin immediately after that and likely will take two years to complete. Airport officials hope the access road will be ready by spring or summer 2019.
