BAY CITY, Mich. (AP) - A Michigan city is hosting a national convention of Americans who meet to celebrate their German heritage.

And that means sauerkraut - lots of it.

The Deutsch Amerikanischer National Kongress - known as DANK - is meeting in Bay City this weekend. Events include a movie Saturday about German immigrants in the Bay City area.

Some events are open to the public. A representative of the German government is flying from Chicago.

Members of the Great Lakes Bay chapter of DANK have chopped 22 heads of homegrown cabbage for sauerkraut. They also made six gallons of horseradish.

Monte Oswald, president of the local group, tells The Bay City Times (https://bit.ly/1FHtdbf ) that the convention is a “big shot in the arm” for the city.
