MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama Department of Mental Health is celebrating its 50th year of service with a ceremony in Montgomery.

The event is set for 11 a.m. Thursday in the Purchasing Auditorium at the RSA Union Building. Gov. Robert Bentley is expected to speak and present Commissioner Jim Perdue with a proclamation. Perdue began leading the department in July.

Officials say department officials and employees are also expected to be on hand for the event.
