WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Veterinarians say a miracle dog who fell from an 11-story balcony in South Florida is doing well.

Kimberly Bellinger was visiting from New York recently when her 22-pound Pekingese Bonzo fell off the balcony. The 12-year-old rescue dog, who suffers from arthritis and hip dysplasia, somehow survived, with only a fractured rib. He was given sedatives and also sent to the oxygen chamber for treatment.

Veterinarian Dr. Ellen Gray said people mistakenly think the higher a dog falls, the worse their injuries will be, but she told the Palm Beach Post (https://tinyurl.com/nzgp7hv) higher falls give dogs more time to brace for the impact.

Bellinger said she didn’t think the dog would be able to get through the balcony because of previous injuries, but thinks he may he might have been confused because he also suffers from some dementia.
