SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Police say new DNA tests have identified the body of a California woman found at a central Utah reservoir nearly 40 years ago.

The Juab County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday that the woman’s body was discovered at Yuba Reservoir in September 1978. Investigators determined she’d been strangled, but couldn’t identify her.

Police say they chased down several leads over the years using dental records, but nothing panned out.

Authorities say a new DNA analysis of a shelved hair sample showed that she was 33-year-old Marilee Bruszer, who was reported missing in August 1978 from Long Beach, California.

Police there have reopened the investigation into her death.

Yuba Reservoir is located about 110 miles south of Salt Lake City.
