BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A new opiate addiction treatment center will be opening in Bennington later this month.

The Bennington Banner reports (https://bit.ly/1Ri6PGH ) the center will be located at the United Counseling Service and will take 30 patients at a time, at least for the first year.

United Counseling Service Executive Director Ralph Provenza says the program took a year to put together because it’s unique. It will not offer methadone and medications prescribed will still have to be taken on-site in order to curb diversion.

The center will only be open to Bennington County residents.

Provenza says the program is being funded by the Vermont Blueprint for Health and Medicaid payments. The center will open in October. But officials don’t have an exact date yet.
