FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) - The New England Patriots promoted practice squad defensive lineman Khyri Thornton to the roster on Thursday and also added four players to the taxi squad.

Thornton, 25, was claimed off waivers from the Green Bay Packers last month. He was originally a third-round draft pick from Southern Mississippi.

In addition, the Patriots signed defensive back Brandon Dixon, offensive lineman Sean Hickey, receiver Austin Hill and linebacker Eric Martin to the practice squad.

Also Thursday, the team confirmed Wednesday’s trade of tight end Michael Hoomanawanui to New Orleans for defensive lineman Akiem Hicks.
