SELMA, Ala. (AP) - A 36-year-old Selma man has been accused of raping a teenager and possibly fathering her child.

Police tell local media outlets in Selma that Richard J. Jones was arrested Wednesday and charged with second-degree rape of a child less than 16 years old and older than 12 years old.

On Sept. 24, authorities responded to a Selma home in reference to a harassment call. The girl told officers that an altercation had occurred between her and Jones about the man having possibly fathered an 8-month-old child with the teenager.

Investigators say they believe the relationship between Jones and the girl lasted over a two-year span.

It was not immediately clear whether Jones has an attorney to comment on the charge.
