NEW YORK (AP) - A sewage leak prompted officials to evacuate and then shut down a New York City courthouse.

The New York Post reports (https://bit.ly/1LUZ1KP ) the Queens Civil Court closed early on Thursday after the smell of sewage emanated throughout the building.

The courthouse was evacuated after someone reported the foul odor to court officers.

The newspaper says the leak started in the basement of the Jamaica, Queens courthouse.

The building was scheduled to reopen on Friday.

A state court system spokesman did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.
