MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - The office of U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen says Edward Stanton III has appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee as it reviews his qualifications for District Court judge.

Cohen’s office says Stanton, the U.S. attorney for the Western District of Tennessee, appeared before the committee on Wednesday.

A lifelong Memphis resident, Stanton has served as U.S. attorney for 22 West Tennessee counties since 2010. He was senior counsel for FedEx before he became U.S. attorney.

Cohen recommended Stanton for a federal judgeship after convening a screening committee of Memphis-area attorneys.
