CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) - Officials say one person has been hospitalized with critical injuries in an explosion at a Cedar Falls apartment complex.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports (https://bit.ly/1Ot3CE8 ) that the explosion occurred Saturday and left the occupants of nine other apartments at Shady Rest without a place to live.

Authorities say a man, who has not been identified, was found outside the building with burns covering much of his upper body. Officials say he was the only person in the apartment where the explosion occurred around 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

The man was taken to a Waterloo hospital in critical condition. No other injuries were reported.

Cedar Falls fire officials say they suspect the cause was a natural gas explosion. The state fire marshal has been called in to assist with the investigation.
