PERRY, Maine (AP) - Maine State Police say a Perry select board member and another man have been arrested in connection with an arson fire at a vacant home in town last year.

Selectman Scott MacNichol is charged with two counts of arson and criminal conspiracy to commit arson. Thirty-six-year-old Jeffrey Morrison of Perry is charged with perjury, two counts of arson, criminal conspiracy to commit arson and insurance deception.

Authorities say the fire destroyed the home owned by Morrison.

A state Fire Marshal investigator says the house was burned to collect insurance money.

Police say MacNichol and Morrison, who are good friends, are out on bail.

It’s not immediately known if they are being represented by attorneys.
