JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - A black bear is dead after it was hit by a vehicle and Juneau police euthanized the animal.

The Juneau Empire reports (https://bit.ly/1Or4FpH) a driver who hit the bear called police Wednesday night, saying the animal was walking around but seemed disoriented.

Alaska Department of Fish and Game officials recommended the animal be put down.

Juneau Police Department spokesman Lt. David Campbell says these types of accidents are infrequent but not unheard of. He said bear sightings will likely decrease as bears stop looking for food before going into hibernation.
