TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - A dedication ceremony will take place Saturday for the placement of a Mississippi Monument at Shiloh National Military Park in Tennessee.

WTVA-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1jU1kTg ) the monument will be unveiled at 11 a.m.

The marker is the result of years of work by several public and private groups to get a marker to remember those from the Magnolia State who fought in the Civil War battle at Shiloh and Corinth.

Dr. J. Kim Sessums is the sculptor of the marker.

Sessums, a gynecologist in Brookhaven, also worked on the African-American Monument in the Vicksburg National Military Park.

Mississippi will be the 16th state to place a monument at the Shiloh battlefield site.
