OLD SAYBROOK, Conn. (AP) - State Police have fatally shot a man accused of pointing a gun at officers at an Old Saybrook motel.

State Police said the early Saturday morning incident began when police were notified that a suspect who was the focus of several investigations was at the motel. State Police say responding officers from Old Saybrook and Norwich saw the suspect through a window brandishing a firearm and shots were heard.

Motel rooms were evacuated and members of the State Police Tactical Team ordered the unidentified suspect to drop his weapon. Police say he pointed a firearm at officers and ignored their orders.

Police say at least one State Police Tactical Team member discharged a gun, striking the man. He was declared dead at the scene.
