AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - The Longhorns’ upset of the Sooners means Texas Gov. Greg Abbott won his wager with his Oklahoma counterpart, Mary Fallin.

But Abbott said Saturday he’s going to pay up on the bet anyway.

Texas topped No. 10 Oklahoma 24-17 during Saturday’s annual Red River Rivalry game in Dallas.

Per an Abbott-Fallin bet, that means Fallin and Oklahoma City’s Head County Bar-B-Q will sponsor 600 meals at Austin’s Capital Area Food Bank.

Abbott said in a statement, though, that he’ll ensure the nonprofit Rescue Mission in Oklahoma City still receives a shipment of barbecue from Railhead in Fort Worth, which was set to happen if OU won.

Abbott declared “Don’t mess with Texas,” but added that ensuring that needy people in both states get meals was more important than the game.
