WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) - The Williams County Sheriff’s office has bought a new bicycle for a 12-year-old Williston girl who had hers stolen shortly after its second ride.

The Williston Herald (https://bit.ly/1LyBDOd ) reports that Erica Stagnolia saved her allowance all summer to buy the blue mountain bike.

She stowed the bicycle in her garage to get a drink. When Stagnolia returned a short time later, she saw a strange woman ride the bike to a waiting pickup truck, put it in the back and leave.

Authorities were unable to locate the thief. But employees at the sheriff’s office decided to replace the bike using money from a community and school event fund.

Jennifer Stagnolia is Erica’s mother. She says that the gift was a big surprise for her daughter, who was “all smiles.”
