HELENA-WEST HELENA, Ark. (AP) - President Barack Obama has signed a bill that renames the federal building in Helena-West Helena after an Arkansas federal judge who was known for his support of civil rights.

The complex will be known as the Jacob Trieber Federal Building, United States Post Office and United States Court House.

U.S. Rep. Rick Crawford told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (https://bit.ly/1LpEqgS ) that a renaming ceremony is planned.

Trieber was the first Jewish federal judge after being appointed by President William McKinley. He served from 1900-1927 and was also elected Phillips County treasurer and to the Helena City Council.

Legislation to rename the building was introduced in the U.S. House by Crawford and in the U.S. Senate by Sen. John Boozman. The legislation was also co-sponsored by each member of the Arkansas congressional delegation.
