FORT PAYNE, Ala. (AP) - A DeKalb County man has been charged with murder and kidnapping stemming from fatal police chase.

The Gadsden Times (https://bit.ly/1K2wzAD ) reports that 29-year-old Franklin Ledel Blevins has been charged in the death of 32-year-old Leanna Ivey. Police say Blevins tried to flee from Fort Payne police office on Sept. 4, 2013 after investigating him for a domestic violence incident from earlier that day.

Blevins was arrested Wednesday morning.

Authorities say Ivey was the passenger in the vehicle with Blevins. During the chase, the vehicle went airborne and crashed into a tree. Ivey was killed in the impact.

He is being held in the DeKalb County Jail with a $50,000 bond. It’s not clear whether Blevins has an attorney.

This story has been corrected to show that a man was charged with murder and kidnapping, not a grand jury.
