PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Maine police say a woman and a 3-yar-old child were struck by an SUV and seriously injured while crossing a Portland street.

Authorities say the accident occurred at about 8 p.m. on Auburn Street.

The Portland Press Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1VM0J7n ) that the SUV was driven by a 55-year-old man who police have not named.

The child and 34-year-old woman were taken to Maine Medical Center. Police say they are still trying to determine whether the two are related.

Authorities say speed does not appear to have been a factor. No charges were filed Saturday and the investigation is continuing.
