MONROE, Maine (AP) - Maine cheese makers are inviting the public to check out one of the state’s fastest growing industries during Open Creamery Day.
The Maine Cheese Guild is hosting the event on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The creameries that are participating in the event are located in southern, central and mid-coast Maine.
Visitors will be able to check out the creameries, meet the owners and see the animals. Participants include Breakwater Vineyards in Owls Head, Silver Moon Creamery at Smiling Hill Farm in Westbrook and Appleton Creamery in Appleton.
The number of retail cheesemakers in the state has doubled from 40 in 2010 to 80 this year.
