OLD BRIDGE, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey state police say a New York City man was killed and three other people were injured in an alcohol-related crash on the Garden State Parkway.

The four were in a sport utility vehicle that overturned around 7 a.m. Sunday in the southbound express lanes near milemarker 122.3 in Old Bridge. A passenger in the SUV, 28-year-old Steven Rivera of Brooklyn, was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, 29-year-old New York City resident Mark Ellis, was also ejected and hospitalized with undisclosed injuries. He’s charged with vehicular homicide, two-counts of assault by auto and drunken driving.

Two other passengers were being treated at hospitals for injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
