MINOT, N.D. (AP) - A North Dakota doctor is hoping to join an elite team of physicians caring for skiers and snowboarders representing the U.S.

KXMC-TV (https://bit.ly/1VMbBSG ) reports that Dr. Dawn Mattern with Trinity Sports Medicine in Minot recently traveled with Team USA to New Zealand for a recent halfpipe training.

Mattern says traveling with the team to New Zealand was a “great opportunity” and had been one of her goals for quite some time. She says each trip is like a “tryout” and the team decides on its doctor of choice closer to the start of the national competition.

The station reports that if Mattern is chosen as a team physician, she will travel to Finland in November with Team USA for the athletes’ next competition.
