MINOT, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota’s Water Commission has approved funding that will help improve northern Minot’s water system.

KMXC-TV (https://bit.ly/1L6lfqZ ) reports that the commission approved $3.6 million for the project that will involve installing a new water tank and water lines in the city. The estimated cost of the entire project is $6 million.

The station reports that dozens of new homes and apartment complexes have put a strain on Minot’s existent water system.

Dan Jonasson is Minot’s public works director. He says the water tower will provide fire protection for all of north Minot.

The commission has also approved upgrades to other cities where growth has required major expansions in water supply.
