BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Vermont police have charged a 45-year-old fugitive with a lengthy criminal record with escape and several commercial burglaries in Burlington.

Authorities say 45-year-old Lance Mason of Burlington was arrested after patrons of a St. Paul Street restaurant reported a pocketbook and knapsack had been stolen from hooks inside the restaurant Saturday night.

Police say Mason, who had an outstanding warrant for escape for removing his GPS monitoring bracelet in August, was located nearby and in possession of some of the stolen articles.

He was charged with grand larceny in connection with the Saturday thefts and with burglaries at two businesses in late September.

Police say Mason’s criminal record includes 17 misdemeanor convictions and 19 felony convictions.

He is due in court Tuesday. It was not immediately known whether he has a lawyer.
