SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Police say a bicyclist was fatally struck by a Muni bus in downtown San Francisco.

Officer Grace Gatpandan says a 48-year-old man was bicycling on Market Street Sunday afternoon when he apparently lost control and collided with a bus traveling in the same direction.

The bicyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police closed the busy street in the financial district to investigate the collision, causing a traffic backup.

The cyclist’s name has not been released.

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation issued a statement expressing condolences to the cyclist’s relatives and friends.
