PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families is seeking to recoup almost $500,000 from the Center for Southeast Asians.

The Providence Journal (https://bit.ly/1jYSyDE ) reports that the agency said it demanded that CSEA repay the money following an audit released last week.

The audit said the center failed to return nearly $450,000 in unused funds.

The agency contends that CSEA should also repay the state for money improperly spent on meals, entertainment and meetings, as well as interest.

Jamia McDonald, brought in by Gov. Gina Raimondo this year to lead an overhaul of the agency, met with center representatives Oct. 7. A spokesman for the center says that negotiations are ongoing.
