MACON, Ga. (AP) - A central Georgia man is facing eight years in prison after pleading guilty to a reduced charge in the death of his 3-month-old son.

The Macon Telegraph (https://bit.ly/1VOKEIJ ) reports that a Bibb County judge imposed the sentence Monday on 28-year-old Richard Allen Hicks.

Hicks was charged with murder following the death of infant Desmond Hicks in 2012. An autopsy showed the boy suffered injuries including a fractured skull and broken ribs.

The man pleaded guilty Monday to a reduced charge of involuntary manslaughter.

A prosecutor says Hicks initially denied knowing his son was hurt, but he later admitted throwing him into a bassinet in frustration over the child’s crying.

Hicks served about five years in the U.S. Army, and a defense lawyer says his client suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder.
