CATO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A man shot and killed by police after he shot a Montcalm County deputy with a crossbow has been identified.

State police Sgt. Scott Ziesman says autopsy results were not available Monday for 40-year-old Travis Lee Quay.

Authorities were serving an arrest warrant on Quay at his Cato Township home when the deputy was struck in the side with an arrow. A state trooper then returned fire, striking Quay at least once. Quay was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deputy underwent surgery and was in stable condition over the weekend at a hospital.

Neighbor Kevin Schultz has said there was a confrontation between Quay and Schultz’s family on Friday morning.

Cato Township is about 50 miles northeast of Grand Rapids.
