PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a feral kitten and adult cat were tortured, killed and left on a Long Island lawn.

The Suffolk County Police Department was looking Monday for a suspect or suspects, and various agencies were offering rewards for information.

The animals were killed sometime between 11 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday. Police say they were found on the lawn of a person who had been caring for them, on Corbin Avenue in Patchogue.

The Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says the kitten was 4 to 6 months old, and the animals were tortured.

Authorities believe the felines were attacked by a person or people, not by another animal.
