HICKSVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - Police say they have arrested a Long Island burglar after he allegedly broke into a home and apologized to a woman inside before leaving.

Thirty-four-year-old Shane Lopez was charged with burglary after he was arrested Saturday night following the home invasion in Hicksville.

The 24-year-old victim told police she heard glass breaking inside her bedroom. When she entered the room she said the burglar told her “I’m sorry” before leaving through a broken window.

Officers followed a trail of blood to a nearby parking lot where they found a bloody Lopez with wounds to his head, arm and hands.

Police say nothing appeared to have been taken from the home.

It wasn’t immediately clear if he had a lawyer who could comment on the charges on his behalf.
