TOWN-N-COUNTRY, Fla. (AP) - Tampa Bay-area authorities say a suspect in a shooting crashed into two sheriff’s office patrol vehicles, causing severe damage.

Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Larry McKinnon says deputies responded early Monday to a 911 call about a male gunshot victim in Town-N-Country.

McKinnon says that as deputies arrived, a suspect was fleeing the scene in his vehicle. When the deputies attempted to stop him, he allegedly crashed into two sheriff’s office vehicles.

McKinnon says the deputies were not injured, but the crash caused severe damage to both vehicles. It wasn’t immediately clear whether the suspect was injured. McKinnon says the suspect is in custody.

The sheriff’s office says the gunshot victim was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. McKinnon says detectives believe the shooting may be drug-related.
