WASHINGTON (AP) - Authorities say a District of Columbia police officer struck a pedestrian who was walking near an intersection.

The crash occurred around 1:45 p.m. Monday. Police say the officer hit the pedestrian with a Metropolitan Police Department SUV.

Authorities say the crash sent the officer and the pedestrian to the hospital. The pedestrian suffered serious injuries and the officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident caused road closures in the area. All lanes reopened by 7 p.m.

Officials say they are investigating what caused the crash.
