COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) - Friends and family are mourning a Columbus police officer and mother of five who fell to her death while rappelling in north Georgia.

Columbus Police Chief Ricky Boren tells local media that 40-year-old Suzanne Huffman was with a church group Saturday when she fell about 30 feet Saturday on Pigeon Mountain in Walker County.

Huffman’s son, 17-year-old Tanner Hope, tells WTVM-TV (https://bit.ly/1MvrW8t) that the rope his mother was attached to became unhinged from its clip, causing her to fall to the ground.

Huffman was a patrol officer with the Columbus Police Department for seven years.

David Huffman, Suzanne Huffman’s father, says that his daughter had served in the U.S. Army, doing tours in Hawaii and South Korea.

An autopsy is being performed in Atlanta.
