JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) - Authorities are seeking a 26-year-old man for the killing of his estranged girlfriend and their young son in Jersey City Heights.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office says 26-year-old Jose Ronald Santos-Alvarez is wanted on two counts of first degree murder in the deaths of 27-year-old Monika M. Potoczniak and 4-year-old Christopher R. Potoczniak.

The two were found were found unconscious in their second floor apartment around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. They were taken to a local hospital where they were pronounced dead about an hour later.

On Friday, the medical examiner determined that Monika Potoczniak had been strangled and her son had been suffocated. The deaths were ruled a homicide.

Authorities say Santos-Alvarez is considered dangerous and should not be approached.
