CORONA, Calif. (AP) - The fiancée of one of nine construction workers injured while working on a Southern California freeway bridge says he is fighting for his life.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise newspaper reported Monday (https://bit.ly/1VNj6Dz ) that 33-year-old Jarrell Boyd may not survive injuries suffered when a section of the bridge collapsed along State Route 91 in Corona.

Boyd’s fiancée Kendra Santos says his shoulder, neck and femur are broken.

Boyd and six others remained hospitalized late Monday. The conditions of the others weren’t immediately known.

The collapse occurred Friday as the bridge deck was being lowered into place. Officials said the deck suddenly dropped about 16 inches, striking wooden support beams, which hit the workers.

Construction was halted as the accident was investigated.

The road under the bridge reopened Monday.
