SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Prosecutors say a man has been charged with the killing or harming of at least four cats in a San Jose neighborhood and authorities are exploring whether there are more feline victims.

The San Jose Mercury News reports (https://bayareane.ws/1Gck62c ) 24-year-old Robert Ray Farmer was arraigned Tuesday on three felony charges of animal cruelty and one charge of attempted animal cruelty. He was also arraigned on one charge of misdemeanor battery involving an unspecified human victim.

Investigators arrested Farmer last week after they found him sleeping in a car where a cat’s carcass was later discovered.

Deputy district attorney Alexandra Ellis says Farmer is suspected in animal abductions going back to at least mid-September.

Surveillance video of one of the purported cat abductions coupled with a bevy of resident tips to police led to Farmer’s arrest.
