IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - An Iowa prisons official says an inmate serving a forgery sentence has died.

Corrections Department spokesman Fred Scaletta said in a news release Tuesday that 46-year-old Todd Hamann died Saturday at a hospital in Iowa City. Scaletta said Hamann died from pancreatitis.

Hamann was convicted of two counts of forgery in Woodbury County and began serving his sentence on March 1, 2013.
