SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (AP) - Customers at a Walmart in Northern California got quite a fright after a row of Halloween costumes were set on fire by a man who first sprayed lighter fluid on them.

San Leandro police Lt. Robert McManus tells KGO-TV (https://abc7ne.ws/1LMLHcG) a suspicious man had been in the store for several hours carrying a bottle of charcoal lighter fluid.

McManus says the man tossed lighter fluid in several areas of the store and then lit the costumes on fire. The fire also spread to the Halloween candy section.

McManus says police and firefighters arrived and were able to assist in putting out the fire and detaining the suspect.

The unidentified suspect was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for smoke inhalation before being taken to the San Leandro jail. The motive behind the fire is unclear.
