WAUSAU, Wis. (AP) - Police say a witness told investigators a man who died after falling from a bridge into the Wisconsin River appeared to be intoxicated.

Officers say they were called to the river about 1:30 a.m. Monday by a fisherman on the bridge. The man told police he noticed an intoxicated male stumbling across the train bridge and heard a splash. He saw a man in the water and called 911.

Firefighters arrived and pulled the man from the water. Authorities say 50-year-old George Polley, of Schofield, was pronounced dead at the scene.
