MINDEN, Nev. (AP) - A 27-year-old Minden man accused of killing his mother was shot in a gun battle with sheriff’s deputies but is expected to survive.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Sgt. Pat Brooks said 50-year-old Michelle Kozlowski was fatally shot by her armed son, Jarek Kozlowski, when she confronted him at a Minden residence about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Investigators say he threatened her and fought with his younger brother, Joseph, before pointing a handgun at him and later shooting their mother.

Deputies responding to a domestic violence call found her body in the street and were met by gunshots at the residence.

Deputies returned fire and hit Jarek Kozlowski, who fled over a fence but soon was apprehended and taken to a local hospital.

Brooks said his injuries are not considered life-threatening. No deputies were hurt.
