TOMS RIVER, N.J. (AP) - A 3-year-old is in stable condition after police say he was bitten by his family’s dog.

Toms River police say the boy had been playing with the pet in the kitchen when he was bitten in the face on Monday night.

His parents were home at the time.

The child was flown by helicopter to Cooper Medical Center in Camden.

Animal control officers took the dog into custody for observation and evaluation.

Police did not say what breed the dog is.
