TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - A 20-year, $55-million plan focused on Tupelo’s roadways now heads to the City Council for approval before voters have the ultimate say next year.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1K6Eo8i) the Major Thoroughfare Program Committee voted unanimously Monday to approve the plan for projects on Tupelo roads.

The plan, which now heads to the city council for approval, encompasses an estimated $55 million in total roadway work for the area.

If approved by the city council, the plan would be reevaluated and voted on by citizens in five-year increments, as has been done in the past.

The committee commissioned studies to survey the area’s roadway needs for the next 20 years.
